The short version

What stays on your device

Your settings, colours, best times, a puzzle you've paused, your daily results and your streaks are saved in your browser's own storage on this device. They don't leave it. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings deletes all of it, and Loopism starts fresh.

What goes to Loopism's server, and why

Feedback, only when you press Send

Your words, plus the game details below, so a note like "this one was unfair" comes with the exact puzzle and the moves that led to it. A note sent from the menu carries no puzzle.

Finished puzzles, anonymously

When you finish or give up on a puzzle, the game sends the game details below, with the score and the level it was played at. Real solve times let us set fair target times, spot puzzles that are too hard, find bugs, and show how players do overall. Each one arrives on its own: nothing links two puzzles to the same player or device. The tutorial is never sent.

When something breaks

If the game hits an error, it sends a short report so it can be fixed: the error message and where in the game's own code it happened, the game's version, which screen was showing, your screen size, and the kind of browser and system (just "Safari on iOS", say, never the exact version). Nothing about you: anything in the message that looks like an email or a web address is removed before it's kept. Reports are deleted after 90 days.

Puzzles coming to you

The game asks the server for puzzles: the day's daily, and a supply of boards for the level you're playing, kept on your device so a spell offline doesn't stop play. Asking for them sends nothing about you beyond what any web page request carries.

The game details

That's all. No name, no email, no device code, no language or location.

Your internet address

Every website sees the internet address of whoever visits. Loopism's server uses it for one thing: stopping floods, such as more than 60 feedback notes in an hour from one place. For that it keeps a scrambled version (with a key that changes every day) for one hour, then deletes it. It is never stored with a puzzle or a note, and the original is never stored at all.

Who else is involved

Cloudflare hosts the game, its server and its database. Like any host, it handles your internet address to deliver the pages and keeps short technical logs. Cloudflare's privacy policy.

No one else. Everything the game needs, down to its lettering, comes from loopism.ca itself. No advertising or analytics companies, and nothing is shared or sold.

Ads

There are none. If that ever changes (an optional video for a hint, say), this page will change first and say exactly what the ad company would get.

How long things are kept

Finished puzzles are kept as long as Loopism runs, because target times and comparisons are built from them. Feedback is kept as long as it's useful. Since neither is linked to anyone, there's nothing on the server to look up or delete for a particular person.

Children

Loopism is fine for all ages. It never asks for anything that identifies a person, whatever their age.

Your choices

The formal bits

Who is responsible

Loopism is made by one person in Canada, not a company. Contact for anything on this page: loopism@icloud.com.

The law

Personal information is handled in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR also give you the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the use of your information, and to take it elsewhere; ask at the address above. You can also complain to a privacy regulator; in Canada that is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Why the information is used

Finished puzzles and feedback are used to run and improve the game (for GDPR, "legitimate interests"); feedback is used because you chose to send it. Records are anonymous: they carry no identifier for a person or a device, and no attempt is made to link them to anyone.

Where it is kept

Cloudflare runs worldwide, so information may be stored or handled outside Canada, including in the United States.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels encrypted (HTTPS). The database can only be reached by Loopism's own server, and only the person who makes Loopism can read it.

Changes

When this page changes, the date at the top changes too, and anything significant is also announced in the game's "What's new".
